Accessibility statement
Updated 23 October 2026
We want everyone to be able to use Madaf, on this site and in the app. Both were built to the Israeli standard IS 5568 at level AA (based on WCAG 2.0), and also checked against WCAG 2.1 level AA.
What we did
- The whole site and the web app work with a keyboard alone, with a clear frame showing where you are.
- Every button, field and image is described for screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack). Errors, short messages and new chat messages are read out.
- Colour contrast meets the requirements, in both the light and the dark theme.
- Text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content.
- If your device asks for less motion, transitions don't move.
- Every gesture has a button too: when browsing books, buttons replace swiping.
- Books can be catalogued without a camera, by searching for the title or typing it in.
- Every page on the site has a "Skip to content" link.
- A message with a button (such as "Undo") stays on screen while a screen reader is on, until you close it.
How we checked
Automated checks with axe on every page of the site and every screen of the app, in both themes, plus manual checks of keyboard navigation, screen reader descriptions, text enlargement and reduced motion.
What isn't perfect yet
- The app has not yet been tested with users with disabilities. That's planned, and we'd be glad to have you take part.
- Scanning a barcode needs a camera. The alternative is searching by title or typing it in.
- New chat messages arrive every few seconds rather than at once.
- Book titles and authors that readers type in are shown as typed.
- The Android and iPhone apps aren't out yet; we will check them before they reach the stores.
